What clearing work looks like
Clearing means different things depending on the property and what you want out of it. Sometimes it is bush hogging heavy brush so you can walk your own land again. Sometimes it is taking trees, stumps, and roots out completely so a house pad or a barn can go where the woods were. A lot of jobs land somewhere in between.
That in-between is where forestry mulching earns its keep. The mulcher chews brush and small trees into chips right where they stand. No burn piles, no dumpsters, no hauling. The chips stay on the ground as cover and break down over time. For pasture, trails, fence lines, and opening up views, mulching is usually the right call. If you are building on the spot, you want a full clear with the stumps and roots out, because you cannot set a foundation over buried wood.
When it is time to call
Cedar and brush do not wait around in Middle Tennessee. A field left alone for a few summers stops being a field. The common reasons people call me:
- You bought or inherited acreage and the growth got ahead of you.
- You are building a house, barn, shop, or pool and need the spot cleared to dirt.
- Pasture is getting eaten up from the fence lines in.
- You want to see your property line, your creek, or your view again.
What affects the price
Acreage matters less than what is standing on it. Thin brush moves fast. Thick cedar and big hardwoods take time. What happens to the debris changes the number too: mulching it in place costs less than cutting, piling, and hauling it off. Slope, wet ground, and how easy it is to get a machine onto the property all play in.
I do not price clearing over the phone, because I would be guessing. I come out, walk the land with you, and give you a firm number before any work starts. The quote costs nothing.
Questions people ask
Do you haul the debris off or burn it?
Depends on the job. Mulching leaves chips on the ground, so there is nothing to haul. On a full clear we pile the debris and handle it however we agree on before work starts. You will know the plan, and the cost of it, up front.
Will the equipment tear up my property getting in?
Tracked machines are easier on ground than people expect, and I plan the route in before we start. If the ground is soaked, I would rather push the date than rut up the part of your land you were not paying me to touch.
Is mulching or full clearing right for me?
Short version: if you are building on the spot, clear it fully, stumps and all. If you want the land open, usable, and looking kept, mulching does the job for less money. Walking the property together settles it pretty quick.
How big a tree can you take down?
The mulcher handles brush and smaller trees. Bigger hardwoods get cut and handled separately, which is normal on a mixed clearing job. If something on your land is beyond what my equipment should touch, I will tell you straight instead of making a mess of it.
