Can you put in a gravel driveway, culvert and all?
Yes. Cutting the path, building the base, setting the culvert where the drive crosses the ditch, and topping it with gravel are all the same job to me. A driveway is often the first thing new land needs, and it is one of the most common things I get called for.
Why the base matters more than the gravel
A driveway is not gravel dumped on dirt. It is a shaped, compacted base with a crown so water runs off the sides instead of sitting in the middle, and then gravel on top of that. Skip the base and the gravel sinks into the mud the first wet winter and you are buying it again. I build the base first because that is what you are actually paying for.
Culverts and water
Where the drive crosses a ditch or a low spot, a culvert carries the water under it instead of through it. Sizing and placing it right is the difference between a drive that lasts and one that washes out. If your county or road department has a rule about the culvert at the road, I will tell you what I know and we sort it before the pipe goes in.
What I need from you
Where it starts, where it ends, and what has to drive on it. A car and a truck is one thing. A trailer, a delivery truck, or a concrete truck for a build is another, and that changes width and turns. Tell me on the walk and I will lay it out and price it as one number, loads included.
