Should I mulch it or clear it with a dozer?
If you are building on the spot, clear it fully, stumps and all. If you want the land open, usable, and looking kept, forestry mulching does the job for less money. Walking the property together settles it pretty quick.
What mulching leaves you
The mulcher chews brush and small trees into chips where they stand. No burn piles, no dumpsters, no hauling. The chips stay on the ground as cover and break down over time. It is the right call for pasture, trails, fence lines, opening up a view, or getting a place you cannot walk through back to something you can.
Two honest caveats. The ground is not smooth turf the day I leave. It is chips and ground-down stumps, and grass comes in over the chips with time. And some species will send up sprouts from the stumps for a while, so a mulched piece wants a bush hog now and then to stay open.
What a full clear leaves you
Trees, stumps, and roots come out. The debris gets piled and handled however we agree on. What is left is dirt you can grade, compact, and build on. You cannot set a foundation, a slab, or a driveway base over buried wood, because it rots and settles. So if a house, shop, barn, or driveway is going on the spot, this is the one.
Most jobs are a mix
Full clear where the house pad and driveway go, mulch the rest to open it up. That is normal, and it is usually the cheapest way to get what people actually want. We figure out the line between the two on the walk.
